G-Shock is continuing the celebration of its 40th anniversary with the release of a new series of Recrystallised watches using the design of the first G-Shock in 1983, the the DW-5000C.
For anybody under the age of 50, the design of the new B5000PS and GMW-B5000PG will be more familiar from the more recent full metal GMW-B5000D, which itself is an homage to the very first G-Shock.
In simple terms, these are full metal G-Shocks with a gas infusion steel treatment giving them the super-tough recrystallized surface.
Casio says the recrystallising process makes the surface of the steel watches three times harder, as well as being visually interesting with a crystalline pattern that is unique to every watch.
Sold in gold or silver, the watches both have the G-Shock 40th anniversary logo on the case back and the phrase “SINCE 1983” on the dial. For the super-geeks, there is also a star on the mode button on the lower left side of the case.
Project Team G-Shock
In an additional thanks to the original developers of the G-Shock, Casio has also created the DW-5040PG, which has a dial engraved with the words PROJECT TEAM “Tough”, the name of the team that worked to develop the very first G-SHOCK.
